It can be grounding and restorative to be a member of an ongoing group of therapists. As mental health professionals, we are faced with unique challenges in our personal and professional lives. It can be healing to have a place to talk, grow, and get support. You may be struggling with how grow your caseload, dealing with difficult clients, getting established in the community, fees, insurance, or perhaps feeling like an impostor. It is important to be able to talk about our professional selves as well as our personal selves and at the same time acknowledge we are one person in multiple roles. These groups are unstructured and are a mix of interpersonal process and case consultation.
Members are encouraged to bring in a wide range of issues including practice building, money and finances, clinical cases, self-care, managing countertransference, professional identity, and life issues. The group work will help therapists tolerate both the anxiety of other people’s difficult feelings and our own emotions that arise in the course of our work. Special attention is given to interactions in the moment between group members and the barriers to intimacy that arise that ultimately keep us from being present with our clients. This helps group members better understand themselves and other group members which helps each member become a better therapist.
I lead two of these groups for therapists and both are accepting new members. Members are welcome at any level of group or professional experience. Feel free to reach out so we can meet to explore your membership in one of these dynamic groups.
